Mirror Image Implements Geo-Distributed Database Capabilities into its Edge Computing Service

IAB Ad Technology Marketplace--Mirror Image®, a leading provider of edge computing, streaming and content delivery solutions, today announced the production launch of the Geo-Distributed Database service to extend the capability of the company’s Edge Computing service to handle big data in real-time at the edge of the Internet. Based on ad tech companies’ requirements to be able to work with their ever growing data sets at the edge, Mirror Image implemented active, synchronized NoSQL database servers in all Mirror Image data centers worldwide. The service seamlessly replicates and synchronizes customers’ data sets across the company’s patented, global Dynamic Delivery Network (DDN) so that every request accesses identical, synchronized data regardless of the data center that processes the request. This results in the lowest end-to-end latency by servicing each request using the closest data center.

The Geo-Distributed Database service enables customers to store, update and access their large proprietary data sets with up to hundreds or millions of rows of data and hundreds or thousands of values in each row. Companies use the service for managing real-time GUID (cookie/ID) databases, cookie matching, contextual data applications, and other ad technology use cases, as well as for general web and mobile database-backed applications that require lightning fast response times worldwide.

Flashtalking, a major worldwide ad technology company, uses Mirror Image’s Geo-Distributed Database service to store and access their proprietary user information at the edge to perform ultra-granular targeting in real-time. “Our business success relies on managing very large data sets, and Mirror Image is now able to fully utilize these in real-time at the edge,” said Dan Freeman, CTO and Founder at Flashtalking. “For Flashtalking it is all about matching the most relevant message to the audience, across devices and across the globe. This new service means increased campaign performance and higher ROI for our clients.”

Features and Benefits:

  • Globally distributed, consistent data – Each data set is actively replicated to Mirror Image’s globally distributed network of database servers.
  • Flexible, schemaless data model – Supports flexible key-value data formats. Combined with the Edge Computing service it provides data parsing and manipulation capabilities so the relevant data can be extracted and processed in real-time, supporting complex logic at the edge.
  • Scalable – Built to scale automatically in response to both request rates and data growth.
  • Fully managed – Maintenance, replication, synchronization, backup, security and monitoring are included at no additional charge.
  • Proven – Mirror Image’s database is built on Couchbase Server, a widely used NoSQL database with over 350 commercial production customers in a range of industries.
  • Data privacy – Mirror Image never uses or shares customer’s data.
  • Dynamic Delivery Network – Tightly integrated with Mirror Image’s patented, global Dynamic Delivery Network for performing sophisticated request-response processing logic for requests originating around the world with fast end-to-end response times.

“Couchbase Server is the most complete, most scalable general purpose NoSQL database on the market. It is built to deliver the performance and reliability needed for mission critical enterprise applications,” said Rahim Yaseen, Senior Vice President Products, Couchbase. “For almost 20 years Mirror Image has been a recognized leader in fast, secure content delivery, and we are confident that Couchbase Server will provide a competitive advantage for its Geo-Distributed Database Service users by delivering incredible performance at scale.”

“Mirror Image is excited to bring to market our new Geo-Distributed Database service to any company that has requirements to utilize their large data sets in real-time with their worldwide online and mobile applications,” said Robert Andrews, Chief Operating Officer at Mirror Image. “The service replicates, synchronizes, and manages companies’ large and growing data sets across our globally distributed network of database servers and results in the best end-user experience regardless of the visitor’s location.”

The Geo-Distributed Database service is provided on a subscription-based model and billed based on actual usage. Customization fees may apply. The service is available for sale today. For more information visit or call 800-353-2923.
